COTES Engineering presents black oil-free ignition technology at the All-Russian Thermal Engineering Institute’s (VTI)
Dmitry Serant, CEO of COTES Engineering, presented a report at the IVth International Science and Technology Conference entitled “The use of solid fuel for efficient and environmentally-friendly heat and power generation”. In a joint presentation between OOO COTES Engineering and OOO ZiO – COTES, he talked about own patented technology of black oil-free ignition that allows for the significant reduction, or even total exclusion, of black oil use in a pulverized coal power plant. Black oil is still widely used in TPPs, though it results in high costs and additional environmental problems due to its increased sulfur content.
The technology proposed by COTES is based on an electrochemical ignition mechanism created by intensifying the ionization processes within the boundary layer at the base of the flare. Its application allows the lighting and ignition of boilers without the use of black oil, and for stabilizing the burning of the fuel, especially at low loads. The payback period after implementing such technology ranges from 3 to 5 years, circumventing the need for additional fuel for ignition, providing optimization of fuel burning modes and expansion of the range of coal grades.
The black oil-free ignition technology patented by COTES has already been requested by power plants in Siberian and Far Eastern Federal Districts, fuelled by coal.
